Abstract

Seyferth Reagents - phenyl(trichloromethyl)mercury (I), phenyl (tribromomethyl)mercury (II) and phenyl(1-bromo-1-chloro- trif1uoroethyl)mercury (III) - have been synthesized in 70–95% yields at room temperature from the corresponding halogenated hy carbons, phenylmercuric chloride and sodium or potassium hydro using two types of phase transfer catalysts viz., tetraorgano-nium/phosphonium bromide and 18-crown-6/PEG-200.
