Abstract
Several hitherto unreported pentacoordinated O-triarylarsenic(V) dioximates Ar3As(ON=CR'R'')2 [Ar=Ph and p-tolyl; R', R'' Me, Me; Me, Ph; Me, Et; Ph, Ph; and -(CH2)5- have been prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, 1H NMR and solid state IR spectra, conductivity and molecular weight measurements. These oximayes are hydrolytically unstable but remain unaffected in the presence of methanol and carbon disulphide. However, PhNCO was found to add exothermally across As-O bonds in N2 atmosphere to give a new adduct. The As-O bond was found to be cleaved by TeCl4 and PhTeCl3 to give the corresponding tellurium oximates.
