Abstract
Tetraiodocobaltates with an empirical formula of [AAH2] [CoI4] were obtained where AA is the diamine: 1,3-propanediamine(tn); 1,5-pentanediamine(pn) or cadaverine; 1,6-hexanediamine (hn); 1,7-heptanediamine(hpn) and 1,8-octanediamine(on). Magnetic studies and the electronic spectra revealed the tetrahedral structure of the CoI2- 4 ion present in these compounds. The I.R. spectra indicated protonation of the amine groups. The splitting energy of the crystal field (10Dq) and the interelectronic repulsion parameter (B) were calculated from the electronic spectra.
