Abstract
Cobalt(II) complexes of the general composition, Co(ligand)2X2 (X=Cl−, Br−, SCN−, NO3 − CH3COO−, ClO4 − and 1/2SO4 2-) of propiophenone and butyrophenone semicarbazones have been synthesised and characterised by elemental analysis, magnetic moments, IR, electronic and esr spectral studies. All the complexes show magnetic moment corresponding to three unpaired electrons. Thiocyanato, sulphato, perchlorato and acetato complexes were found to have six-coordinate geometry, while chloride, bromide and nitrate complexes are four coordinate tetrahedral in geometry.
