Abstract
A series of new complexes of thorium(IV) and dioxouranium(VI) of 5,6-benzoquinoline N-oxide (Benzquo) having the general compositions of Th(Benzquo)nX4 (n = 4; X = Cl, Br, 1, NCS; n = 2; X = NO3 and n = 6; X = ClO4) and UO2(Benzquo)nX2 (n = 2; X = Cl, Br, I, NCS, CH3COO, NO3; n = 4; X = ClO4) were synthesised and characterized by elemental analyses, electrical conductivity, molecular weight, magnetic susceptibility and infrared. In all complexes the ligand was coordinated to the metal ion via its lone oxygen atom. The C.N. of the Th(IV) in these complexes has tentatively been assigned as 6, 8 or 10 depending on the nature of anions. In case of dioxouranium(VI), they form six coordinate or eight coordinate complexes. Thermal properties of these complexes have also been studied.
