Abstract
The complexes of vanadium(III) with some multidentate ligands have been prepared and characterized by elemental analyses, melting points, molar conductances, infrared spectra, magnetic moment, electron spin resonance, and electronic spectra. In most of the cases, the ligands were found to interact with VCl3 in 1:1 molar ratio. All the complexes were found to be 1:1 electrolytes with the two of the three chloride ions in the coordination sphere. On the basis of spectral studies, it appears that all the complexes have distorted octahedral geometry. The e.s.r. spectra and other bonding parameters suggest that an appreciable overlap of metal ligand orbitals occurs in these complexes.
