Abstract
(NH4)2MoS4, which acts as bidentate ligand, on reaction with Cu2C2 (cuprous acetylide) gave violet compound of the formula, (NH4)2MoSCu2C2, while its reaction with Ag2C2 gave a brown compound of the formula, (NH4)2MoS4Ag2C2. These compounds act as Lewis acids towards a number of Lewis bases e.g. pyridine (py), 2,2′-bipyridyl (bipy), nicotinamide (nia), triphenylphosphine (tpp), and 1,10-phenanthroline (phen). These complexes have been studied by elemental analysis, molar conductance, magnetic moment, infrared and electronic spectra which indicate polymeric bridged structure for the anions, (Cu2C2MoS4)2- and (Ag2C2MoS4)2- and monomeric bridged structure for all other complexes.
