Abstract
Novel doubly bidentate Schiff base and bis-carboxyamide ligands were prepared by condensing 4,4′-diaminodiphenyl-sulphone with salicylaldehyde/phenylglyoxal/maleic anhydride. These were then reacted with Cu(II), Co(II), Ni(II) and Fe(II) salts to form their respective complexes. The complexes are dark coloured, high melting substances insoluble in common organic solvents. They have been characterised based on their composition, UV-visible, infrared and ESR spectral data, magnetic susceptibility and thermal studies. In the light of the results obtained, structures of the complexes have been proposed.
