Abstract
Tetradentate ligands derived from some isonitrosoaceto-phenones and benzidine and their binuclear complexes of the type M2L2. 4H2O {L = bis [2-hydroxyimino-1- (4-X-phenyl) -1-ethylidene]benzidine, X = H, Cl, Br, CH3; M = Fe(II), Co(II), and Ni(II)} have been synthesized and characterised by elemental analyses, molar conductance, magnetic susceptibility, electronic, PMR and IR spectra. Substitution in the phenyl ring of the complexes produces shifts in the azomethine stretching vibration ν(C=N) which are related to the Hammett's substituent parameter. The magnetic moments and electronic spectra indicate octahedral geometry for the complexes.
