Abstract
Metal(II) chelates of the Schiff base ligand derived from 2-formylcyclohexanone with o-phenylenediamine have been prepared and characterized. The isolated complexes are of the type ML.xH2O where M = Ni(II), Cu(II), Co(II), Zn(II), Pb(II), and UO2(VI) and where H2L stands for the bis(2-formylcyclohexylidene)-o-phenylenediamine Schiff base ligand. A trinuclear Cu(II) complex of the formula Cu2L2.CuCl2.3H2O was also prepared. The chelates were characterized by elemental analyses, IR, 1H NMR and UV-Visible spectra as well as conductivity and magnetic measurements. It has been found that the ligand behaves as an ONNO quadridentate, dibasic chelate and that the complexes are non-electrolytes in DMF. The mode of bonding and geometrical structure are suggested.
