Abstract
A new Gd(III)-Gd(III) binuclear complex with the formula Gd2(phen)4−(N3)6(H2O) has been synthesized and characterized, where phen is 1,10-phcnanthroline. It has an extended azido-bridged structure consisting of two gadolinium(III) ions in a distorted square antiprismatic environment. The temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility of the title complex has been studied resulting in the exchange integral J = −0.23 cm−1 and g = 1.99. This indicates a weak antiferromagnetic interaction between the metal ions.
