Abstract
The chelating behaviour of neutral and deprotonated (anionic) 2-acetylthiophene-2-furoylhydrazone (Hatfh), 2-acetylfuran-2-furoylhydrazone (Haffh), 2-acetylpyridine-2-furoylhydrazone (Hapfh) and Q-hydroxyacetophenone-2-furoylhydrazone (H2hafh) has been investigated in the complexs of iron(III). The hydrazones react with ferric chloride to yield complexes of the types [Fe(HL)C12(OH)] [HL = Hatfh, Hapfh], Fe(Hatfh)2C12(OH), Fe(Hhafh)C12(H2O), Fe2(L3) (OH)3(H2O) HL = Hatfh, Haffh, Hapfh] and Fe(Hhafh)3. The complexes have been characterized by elemental analysis, molar conductance, magnetic susceptibility, electronic, infrared and Mössbauer spectral studies and their stereochemistries are discussed.
