Synthesis, Characterization and Proton-Dependent Electronic Spectra of a Series of Novel Ruthenium(II) Complexes Containing an Imidazole Unit

Abstract

Starting from 1,10-phenanthroline, four novel imidazole-containing ligands (HL), 2-(2′-chlorophenyl)idazo[4,5-f] 1,10-phenanthroline (OCPH), 2-(3′-chlorophenyl)imidazo[4,5-f] 1,10-phenanthroline (MCPH), 2-(2′-nitrophenyl)-imidazo[4,5-f] 1, 10-phenanthroline (ONPH), 2-(3′-nitrophenyl)imidazo[4,5-f] 1,10-phenanthroline (MNPH) and their ruthenium(II) complexes, [Ru(bpy)2(HL)I2+ (bpy = 2,2′-bipyridine), have been synthesized and characterized. The effect of pH on the electronic absorption spectra of these complexes has been particularly investigated.
