Restricting the Definitions of “Single-Family”

Abstract

As America has become largely a suburban nation in the last few decades, single-family zoning restrictions have been one of the principal vehicles communities have used to insure domestic tranquility. Neighborhoods of similar residential character are the hallmarks of suburbia, and in recent years, ever-larger numbers of communities have adopted some variation on this zoning ordinance definition of a single family to protect the neighborhoods:
