The Two Cultures of Planning: Toward the New Pragmatism

 

Abstract

Two cultures are at work in American city planning today, with one gradually supplanting the other. The changes wrought by the new culture are subtle, but powerful and unrelenting; they are causing our planning to be more result-oriented and to be directed at problems that people actually want solved.
