Abstract
Richard Babcock possessed a combination of personal qualities and abilities rarely found in one individual. I believe that in large measure this explains the extraordinary influence he had upon the fields of land-use and planning law over the past decades. His most compelling qualities and abilities, for me, were always his humor, foresight, irreverence, keen thinking, enthusiasm for people, and ability to write and speak about the substance of the law in colorful, understandable language.
