Abstract

It is estimated that hundreds of thousands of individuals become ill every year from consumption of contaminated drinking water. See Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 45 Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, No. SS-1 (April 12, 1996). Not surprisingly, an increasing number of persons are concerned about the safety of their tap water from a municipal or private supplier of water.¹
