Public Information Conferences as Tools for Environmental Communication Training

Abstract

Students in the environmental communications curriculum at The Ohio State University annually produce a conference to inform the public about a current environmental issue. This article describes the process of planning, publicizing, presenting, and evaluating the conference, and how each phase of conference production contributes to development of the students' communication skills. An overview of five conferences highlights their differences and their effects on the knowledge and attitudes of participants.
