A Critical Analysis of Image Management within the Environmental Movement

Pages 9-14 | Published online: 15 Jul 2010

Abstract

This qualitative critical analysis examined how competing identities are managed within the environmental movement. Both mass media and in-house publications of environmental organizations served as data. Primary identity problems and strategies used to manage them were identified and assessed for each activist constituency. The essay concludes with a discussion of the implications that these efforts to reconstitute public identities have on the study of movement communication.
