Environmental Education in the University of Illinois Cooperative Extension Service: An Educator Survey

Abstract

The University of Illinois Cooperative Extension Service (UICES) educators' preparation to infuse environmental education (EE) concepts into their programming, their attitudes toward EE, and extent to which they were infusing EE concepts into their programming were assessed. A modified version of a questionnaire developed by the Wisconsin Center for Environmental Education was mailed to a census of UICES educators. The findings indicate that EE did not occupy a prominent role in UICES programming. Additionally, educators were very close to undecided concerning whether they were competent to design and deliver programs about the environment and/or environmental issues using affective-, cognitive-, and connative-domain education methods.
