Correlates and Dimensions of Environmental Quality Concern Among Residents of an African Subtropical City: Gaborone, Botswana

Pages 31-39 | Published online: 31 Mar 2010

Abstract

The dimensions, relative significance, and correlates of environmental quality and socioeconomic concern among residents of Gaborone, a small but spatially and demographically dynamic city in southern Africa, are examined. The data indicate that environmental quality issues compete with socioeconomic concerns for people's attention and that the issues are more recognized by the better educated and well-off residents. Gender and age were found to be poor predictors of environmental concern.
