Abstract

The crystals of a zinc-sodium complex with furan-2-carboxylate (FCA) as a ligand, n[Zn(H2O)6]2+[Zn8Na2(FCA)18(OH]2]2- n , contain hexahydrated zinc cations and polyanions in which four differently coordinated zinc(II) cations are bridged by bidentate and monodentate (FCA) ligands. In addition, a number of carboxylate and furan ring oxygen atoms are coordinated to sodium(I) atoms which constitute the backbone of the polyanion. [Zn(H2O)6]2+ cations are located in cavities formed by adjacent polyanions and interact with them via a system of hydrogen bonds. The resulting molecular layers are stacked in the crystal along the [100] direction.
