Abstract

A nonpolar organic polymer, poly(methylphenylsiloxane), dissolves silver(I) trifluoroacetate through coordination of the phenyl group. The resultant complex readily exchanges the ligand with benzene or cyclohexene. Two different methods have been developed to evaluate the ligand exchange constants at very high concentrations of the constituents: a) by vapor pressure of the ligands and b) by the vapor composition in the presence of an inert compound, cyclohexane, employed as an internal standard. Similar values were obtained in these methods: The discrepancies are discussed.
