For a number of reasons, an increasing number of cases are being reported to health authorities and the disease is spreading to newer geographic areas. In response to this public health concern, health educators need to be thoroughly informed about many aspects of Lyme disease. This article discusses the history, symptoms, medical complications, transmission, and preventive measures associated with Lyme disease. Special emphasis is given to assist health educators in providing effective educational measures in response to the Lyme disease epidemic.
