Pages 353-364 | Received 20 Oct 1980, Published online: 30 Mar 2007

Abstract

The heat transfer characteristics and performance of conically wound, single-layer, monotube receivers for a concentrating solar collector are investigated. A discussion of methods and assumptions used to formulate the basic energy balances is presented. Results obtained from this analysis indicate the degree of sensitivity of performance lo variations in tube radius, inlet temperature, ambient temperature, absorptivity of the tube coating, and cone half-angle within receiver size and mounting limitations.
