Abstract
In an earlier communication devoted to slow gas-liquid reactions in a backmix reactor the statement was made that film theory was chosen for the analysis “since the alternative penetration theories are unable to account for reaction in the bulk” (1). Strictly speaking this statement is correct, but the implication that only film theory can be applied to such systems is erroneous. As pointed out by Prof. Merchuk, the hybrid “film-penetration” theory of Toor and Marchello (2) also accounts for reaction in the bulk liquid. Regrettably, the earlier paper on the subject by Loffler and Merchuk (3) was overlooked.
