Abstract
Parameter estimation in four multi-parameter models, descriptive of trickle flow in packed beds, has been examined via a rigorous nonlinear least squares analysis in the time domain. The overall results reveal that, while matching a given experimental response, certain models generate distinct solution to the specified parameter optimization problem whereas others result in multiple sets of the model parameter values. In the latter case, due to the absence of a unique theoretical prediction, ambiguity in RTD analysis could arise.
