On the Role of Oxygen, Hydrogen, and Carbon in a Tungsten Bromine Lamp

Abstract

Experimental evidence is presented which suggests that the level of Br2, O2, C, and H2 must be well balanced to achieve optimal long life performance of tungsten bromine lamps. Life tests were carried out on tungsten halogen lamps which contained fixed added amounts of bromine, carbon, and hydrogen. The results are interpreted in terms of thermodynamic equilibrium calculations on a W-Br-O-H-C system.
