Roadway Lighting Design from Extra High Mounting Heights

, FIES &
Pages 422-436 | Published online: 20 Sep 2013

Abstract

High mast lighting introduces a number of new variables to roadway design. Pole locations no longer follow the road. Mounting heights and fixture quantities can vary from pole to pole. Fixtures can have either symmetrical or asymmetrical distribution. This paper will discuss these variables. It will also present design methods that can be used to insure high system utilization. An economic comparison between high mast and traditional techniques will also be presented.
