Abstract
Irradiance measurements in the ultraviolet region of the spectrum (200 to 400 nanometers) are involved in the development of federal public health standards for all sources of ultraviolet, including standard illuminants that emit energy in this region. Recommendations for such standards have already been proposed by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) to the Department of Labor for eventual enforcement under the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970. Information in this paper is presented as a commentary on some of the measurement problems encountered in establishing these standards.
