Abstract
Foreword—There has been a limited list of recommended levels of illumination for aircraft manufacturing and maintenance, and a general lack of information for both industries. The Industrial Lighting Committee established the Aircraft Industry Subcommittee in late 1969 specifically to provide more information for that industry. After many meetings, visits to manufacturing and maintenance facilities, and limited visual task evaluations, the subcommittee has prepared the following recommendations covering general aircraft manufacturing, aircraft engine maintenance, and lighting for safety in both activities.
