Incandescent Lamp Failure Mechanisms

&
Pages 31-37 | Published online: 20 Sep 2013

Abstract

Wide variations in lamp life are particularly objectionable since premature failure usually occurs when light is most needed—as they are first switched on or in relatively inaccessible locations. The authors contend that the prevention of premature failure is a primary objective of research, and an understanding of the basic incandescent mechanism constitutes a major factor in any systematic approach.
