Abstract

The design and application of lighting systems for spacecraft are probably the most challenging total assignments in illuminating engineering. This paper discusses designs of luminaires, circuits, and fluorescent lamps. Emphasis is given to the special problems associated with spacecraft—such as the severe constraints imposed on size, weight, power consumption, and ruggedness. Reliability is an overriding concern.
