Optimum Lamp Spectra

Pages 66-73 | Published online: 20 Sep 2013

Abstract

Theoretical calculations were made to find the optimum spectra for 40-watt cool white, white, warm white, and daylight fluorescent lamps. The optimization technique used is that of nonlinear mathematical programming which requires no a priori assumption on the shape of the spectral power distribution. The results show that emission in just four narrow bands is sufficient to give a color rendering index of up to 95.
