Design Considerations for Roadway Lighting

Pages 40-46 | Published online: 20 Sep 2013

Abstract

The variations in certain visual criteria created by road lighting installations, the designs for which are based on the same illuminance values, are evaluated. A similar evaluation is performed for the variations occurring in road lighting installations that are designed according to the same luminance values based on a simplified—but less precise—description and classification system for the road's reflection properties. The two sets of evaluations are compared. Finally, computer calculated illuminance and luminance values, based on the simplified road surface reflection system, are compared with values obtained from field measurements.
