Monte Carlo Procedures in Lighting Design

Abstract

Consider the problem of illuminating a room. There are ceilings, walls and objects etc., which possess various reflectance characteristics and shapes. Luminaires of various candlepower distributions may be used. The Monte Carlo Method can model surfaces in a way so as to accurately predict a relationship of luminous flux to lighting results.

Considérons le problème de l'éclairage d'une pièce. Les plafonds, les murs, les divers objets, etc. possèdent des facteurs de réflexion et dea formée très divers. On peut utiliser des appareils d'éclairage d'intensité lumineuse variée. La méthode de Monte Carlo permet d'établir un modèle des surfaces grâce auquel on peut prévoir avec précision les repports entre les sources lumineuses et l'éclairage résultant.

Consideremos el problema de iluminación de una habitación. Los techos, paredes, objetos, etc. poseen características de reflectancia y formas muy diversas. Pueden utilizarse aparatos de iluminación de varias intensidades luminosas. El método Monte Carlo permite establecer un modelo de las superficies para predecir exactamente la relación entre el flujo luminoso y la iluminación resultante.
