Understanding the political thought of Pura Villanueva Kalaw

 

ABSTRACT

In these Remarks delivered at the book launch for Twentieth-Century Philippine Political Thinkers (Ed. J.V. Tigno, UP Press, 2018), I give a preview of Pura Villanueva Kalaw's feminist perspective as seen in her early writings and in the arc of her life as an advocate of Filipino woman suffrage.

Athena Lydia Casambre was a faculty member at the University of the Philippines, Baguio (1968-2001) and is a retired Professor at the Department of Political Science, University of the Philippines, Diliman (2001-2011). She is the author of The Discipline of Political Science, From Everyday Narratives to Analysis (Anvil, 2017).
