Abstract
This study attempts to analyze the concentration ratio of Taiwan's film market by using several different traditional indicators, such as CRN and Herfindahl index. The differences between the major film suppliers and the remainder of the market, and the competitive differences between the local and international suppliers are compared. The results show that a few major players corner the market, and that for the majority of these top distributors their success is derived from ticket sales for American films. The authors discuss possible reasons for these statistics, the implications for the industry, and recommendations on how to improve the market share of local producers.
