Communicating science of development: new media tasks

Pages 136-140 | Published online: 23 May 2016

Abstract

The two Development Decades of the United Nations have not suceeded in changing the fortunes of the less developed countries (LDCs) to the extent that was conceived. Increasingly, the strategy of importing technology from the developed countries, and the assumption that LDCs will follow the same development trends of the developed countries when the latter were at a comparable stage of development, became questionable. One of the arguments put forward was that the “spirit of scientific enquiry” had not accompanied the process of technology transfer. The media in LDCs have a vital supportive role to play in this latter process.
