Abstract
The community press has a crucial role to play in the development of rural Asia. How four community newspapers have survived as independent voices and play their roles as catalysts for development are discussed in this paper. It reveals that the most significant factor contributing to the success of the newspapers was the quality of the men who started them. Commitment, involvement and a love for community journalism and total dedication seem to be qualities shared by the editors.
