The Mass Media in Malaysia

Abstract

Malaysia is fast becoming a part of “the information society” and a concerted effort is being made to use the mass media to promote national goals with an improvement in the literacy rate from 58 per cent in 1970 to 72 per cent in 1980. The media is an important tool for the dissemination of information at all levels.

Mohammad Hamdan Adnan is Head, School of Mass Communication, Institut Teknologi Mara (ITM), Malaysia. He represents Institut Teknologi at the Unesco National Commission in Malaysia. He holds a Master’s Degree in Public Relations and Mass Communications.
