Abstract
This article presents the views of 54 Philippine provincial journalists on their role in the process of social change and national development It outlines what their intent is with regard to serving as agents of the political and economic status quo, or of the forces of change. It also presents an overview of the constraints to practising professional journalism in the face of economic hardship, temptation from bribery and physical danger, so prevalent in underdeveloped nations.
