Abstract
A number of dramatic changes in the telecommunications arena in Southeast Asia have come on the heels of worldwide trends toward deregulation and privatization. This paper explores the changes in regulatory structures, different privatization schemes and private participation in telecommunications development in the region in meeting demands of users in emerging new markets for systems and services. An analysis of competition and co-operation in developing telecommunications in the region is also presented.
