Abstract
The Biomedical Photographic Communications Department at the Rochester Institute of Technology currently offers the only university‐based degree programme in this field in the United States. With an enrolment of more than eighty students, the curriculum and its delivery are continually challenged by the ‘new world’ of imaging and the needs of the increasingly diversified industry where its graduates are finding employment. This paper reports on a recent self‐study of the programme and examines the future directions for educating tomorrow's information imaging professionals. In particular, the paper evaluates the name of the department, which has become both an asset and liability in describing the programme to perspective students.
