Electrooptical Behaviour of Cholesteric Blue Phases with Negative Dielectric Anisotropy

ABSTRACT

The influence of an electric field on a blue phase system containing a nematic component with negative dielectric anisotropy is investigated. For BP2, a shift of the maximum of selectively reflected light to shorter wavelengths is observed for the first time. For BP1, the maxima are shifted towards each other and additional maxima appear. This can be explained by assuming a field induced deformation of the cubic structure.
