ABSTRACT

The liquid crystal characterisation method developed by Staromlynslohas been used to study the quality of mono- and multi-molecular layers of cadmium arachidate on glass, indium tin oxide (ITO) and aluminium oxide (Al2O3) substrates. The significant improvement when depositing on ITO and Al2O3 as opposed to glass substrates is demonstrated and discussed. Finally an experiment using the characterisation method to show the high resistance of cadmium arachidate films to damage by high intensities of visible laser radiation is discussed.
