ABSTRACT
A series of liquid crystalline side-chain polymers, poly cholesteryl ω-methacryloyloxyalkanoates (n; carbon number of alkyl chain, n=1,2,3,4,5,7,9,10,11 and 15), were studied. The clearing point decreases with increasing n up to 7, but it shows almost constant in compounds containing more than 7 carbon atoms. Furthermore, the relation between the value of entropy at the clearing point and n indicates discontinuous change at the position around 7 carbon atoms. This fact suggests that the orientation of mesogenic group in members having short spacer differs from that of longer ones.
