Abstract

We show that a chiral biaxial nematic liquid crystal is always frustrated. Because of topological constraints, it cannot realize the state of the absolute energy minimum, but can only show as the ground state either a single helix structure (Chol. II), a conically helicoidal structure or defect structures (blue-phase like).
