On the Landau Theory of the Nematic Critical Point

Abstract

The phase diagram near the nematic critical point is discussed in terms of the scalar order parameter Landau theory with some higher order terms included. The temperature behaviour of the order parameter, susceptibility and the specific heat is studied and corresponding effective critical indices are calculated. The crossover behaviour of the specific heat was found near ε ≃ 10 ⁻³.
