Temperature dependence of domain walls in LaNbO4 and their relation to the spontaneous strain

Abstract

The ferroeiastic twinning in LaNbO4 has been investigated by determination of the irrational Miller indices of the domain walls at room temperature and by measurement of the temperature dependence of the deviation from perpendicularity of the walls, from room temperature to the ferroelastic-paraelastic phase transition. The results obtained are in good agreement with those calculated from the spontaneous strain measured by neutron powder diffraction.
